INDIGENOUS SET SHARP TEST

Indigenous, Hong Kong's middle-distance star, is scheduled to have his first outing of the New Year in a five-furlong sprint race at Sha Tin on Saturday.

Not that there is anything unusual about this as trainer Ivan Allan has gone down this route before with a view to sharpening Indigenous up for the longer races.

The 1998 Hong Kong International Vase winner faces 13 rivals in the first leg of the Hong Kong Sprint Triple Crown, the Bauhinia Sprint Trophy.

Indigenous will be facing specialist sprinters such as the respective first and fifth in the inaugural Hong Kong Sprint, Fairy King Prawn and Best Of The Best.

Indigenous ran the race of his life to be second in the Japan Cup, but has since been a slightly disappointing fourth in the Hong Kong Vase last month.
