INJURY WORRY FOR FITZGERALD

Mick Fitzgerald is hoping he will be fit to partner leading Tote Gold Cup contender Marlborough after aggravating an elbow injury at Fontwell today.

The rider gave up his remaining mounts on the card after guiding Gastina to victory in the novices` chase.

'I damaged my elbow when Bacchanal made a mistake at Ascot last Saturday,' he said.

'I would describe the injury as something like tennis elbow. I`m going to see the doctor tonight and will be having some cortisone injections. I`m hopeful everything will be all right.'

Fitzgerald has several important rides coming up, including Marlborough in his probable target, the Jim Ford Challenge Cup at Wincanton on Thursday.

Tony Dobbin was forced to give up three rides at Carlisle today after aggravating a back injury when partnering Lenny Lungo`s Crazy Horse into third place in the North Lakes Foods Novices` Chase.

Ironically Dobbin had suffered the injury when the same horse fell at Kelso on Friday.

Lungo`s stable conditional jockey Willie Dowling was taken to Cumberland Infirmary with a suspected broken collar bone after a fall from Sumthyne Special in division one of the Calthwaite Novices` Hurdle.
