In The Minus a positive result for Cawley Brian Cawley's In The Minus was patiently ridden to pop up at 40/1 in the extended two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle at Sligo. Shane Fitzgerald guided him into fourth behind the trio of leaders rounding the home bend and he switched him out to challenge in jumping the last. He didn't get very high over it, but the jockey had plenty of horse under him. He readily passed Bruant in the final 150 yards and glided away by almost four lengths. Bruant had to settle for second at 17/2 and was just over two lengths in front of You Make Me Smile (5/1). Alain Cawley, brother of the winning trainer, said: "Brian fancied him at Galway, but he got stopped everywhere and had no luck at all. "He said this good ground is what he wants and he thought, even though he's by Belardo, that this trip would be no problem. "He's out sunning himself in Spain at the moment. "Shane said his jumping was hit and miss, but that they went too quick and it just played into his hands. He had a lovely run around and won well." Additional reporting by Mark Nunan
