A gallant winner at Listowel last month, the Sam Curling trained Fire Coral doubled up when making all under Phillip Enright to land the Guinness Mares Handicap Hurdle at Galway.

Sent straight to the front from flag fall, the Keep It Pucked Out Syndicate owned mare travelled well at the head of affairs under her Tralee born rider.

Pushed along after two out, the 5/1 chance found plenty from the back of the last, keeping on well up the stiff hill to hold Grace Faraday by one-and-a-half lengths.

Sam Curling said: "She is a mighty mare and Philip said she is as tough as old boots. I thought the 8lb penalty might beat her but I was obviously wrong. I'd say the cheekpieces help her concentrate.

"She'll stay running as long as the ground stays any way right. She'll jump a fence next summer and I'd say she'll also win on the Flat next year.

"The seven-member syndicate are local, from Nenagh, but unfortunately are working today."
