A three-time winner over hurdles, Inchiquin Star recorded a first success on the Flat when getting up close home under Colin Keane to land the Robert Grace Live After Racing June 2nd Handicap at Gowran Park.

Coming into this race 0-19 on the level, Paul Kiely's six-year-old had a bit to prove. However, on an evening where it paid to be up with the pace, Keane soon had her sitting second just off leader Sioux Eagle

Ranging up to draw alongside the latter entering the straight, Inchiquin Star led narrowly over two-furlongs out but Luke McAteer soon rallied to draw alongside on Sioux Eagle.

Nothing separated the pair inside the final furlong, with both horses flashing by the winning line together. It took the judge to split the pair, with Inchiquin Star edging it by a nose.

Colin Keane said: “She was very straight forward and when we needed her, she was good and game.

“She’s a nice dual-purpose mare and is tough and genuine.

“They thought she would appreciate going up in trip and the cheekpieces back on helped her a bit as well.”
