Course scorer Ineffable bounced back to winning ways in the Connolly Kelly Accountants Apprentice Handicap at Dundalk.

Between this game and hurdling Ineffable hasn't been at his best in recent times, and as a consequence he went off at 14/1 for this assignment.

Bred by Aidan and Annmarie O'Brien's Whisperview Trading Limited, Ineffable wasn't without friends in the betting ring though, despite his apparent unappealing credentials.

Backed in from 22/1, the Fastnet Rock gelding just prevailed close home by a short head from Easy Boy

Dylan Hogan rode Ineffable for Rodger Sweeney.

"He travelled way better tonight. The trip was too short last time and he was run off his feet as he wasn't able to go the pace," said Sweeney.

"We'll find something here for him again, and that will make the drive home a bit easier tonight."

Stable stalwart Salsify runs tomorrow and Sweeney revealed: "I'd say he'll be about 85 percent tomorrow and hopefully he'll run well. He's been a great servant and the fire is still in the belly."

The Stewards requested a report from Rodger Sweeney, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Ineffable, placed first, as compared with its recent form.

The trainer reported that his charge disappointed on his previous run when drawn wide over a shorter trip and didn't get a chance to get competitive.

He felt a combination of a slightly better draw, the removal of a tongue tie and a step up in trip, had contributed to the apparent improvement in form.

Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
