Injury has King Shabra sidelined

Oliver Brady has been left to rue what might have been this season with King Shabra.

The colourful trainer has had plenty of decent horses down the years and the Milan gelding had appeared another set to keep his name in lights at the big meetings before injury intervened.

The six-year-old really came to prominence with a 22-length success in a Fairyhouse maiden hurdle in October, which prefaced an excellent effort to finish runner-up to Rule The World at Naas over a fortnight later.

Well-fancied against Glens Melody in a four-runner affair at Punchestown in November, bad luck struck and Ryan Treacy's mount trailed in last of the quartet.

Brady explained: "He got a wee bit of a leg the last time he ran. He got an over-reach at the first and gave himself a bit of a cut on the front leg at the back of the tendon. All he can do is rest now - we can do nothing with him until it heals.

"It's a bit disappointing as he was one of the best around.

"He might race at the back-end of this year, but he'll not race for the next three months, up to April anyway. He'll go out to grass then and have a break as he's not what you'd call a summer horse.

"As soon as the good weather comes he'll be out to grass and come in maybe around August to get ready for the winter campaign next season."

The ever-popular Brady added: "I'm weak on the ground with decent horses at the minute. I have Zafarqand, but the ground just isn't suiting him and he'll likely be one for a summer campaign.

"My own health is not too bad at the minute, though - thank God everything is going the right way."
