Intyre wins again to keep favourite backers happy The Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap went to the 11/4 favourite Intyre Trail for trainer Peter Fahey with Ronan Whelan (fifth winner of the season) aboard. The son of Mull of Kintyre was following up his recent success at Tipperary here making it career win No 5 after scoring twice at Dundalk in November of ‘09 and October of last year. He since won at Southwell in January. The winner led over a furlong from home and held off the late challenge of the well backed second favourite Aragon Icon (8/1 into 7/2) by three parts of a length at the line. Solar Sail was a further head back in third with No Trimmings, who was doing his best work at the finish, a further neck away in fourth. Winning trainer Peter Fahey said afterwards: "That's my third consecutive winner (won with this horse and Owega Star). He is a very, very tough horse, we may chance him with a five pound penalty at Roscommon now on Monday."
