Inver Bay springs 50/1 surprise at Roscommon Inver Bay sprang a 50/1 surprise on handicap debut today, landing Roscommon’s Gary's Gardening Services Handicap Hurdle for owner/breeder Cris Mullen, jockey Simon Torrens and trainer Aidan Howard. The seven-year-old mare had been handed a rating of 94 for today’s race, following some fair efforts in three maiden hurdles, and having been patiently ridden, finished well to score by 2.25 lengths from Nukie’s Artic . Howard, successful with Fianna at the Curragh yesterday, revealed “running in her first handicap, I wasn’t expecting her to be good enough to win today but they went so hard in front, I think they cut each other's throats and it fell into her hands. I’m absolutely delighted as I thought the handicapper was a bit hard on her. “I don’t know how true the race was run, it might have just fallen into her hands, but I’m delighted. “I have good owners and I’m absolutely delighted that the horses are in good order.
