Invincible Will clung on to land the seven-furlong NorthStandard Handicap at 22/1 in the hands of Jack Kearney.

Kearney availed of a lovely clear seam to improve his mount into the lead on the approach to the final furlong. He asserted in the final 150 yards, but Zenford (6/1) stayed on strongly down the centre to make a race of it close home.

The pursuer eroded virtually all of the lead, but was a short head in arrears at the line. Golden Trigger was just half a length away in third at 13/2.

Gavin Cromwell said: “He’s been a frustrating horse. The last day in Naas Robbie (Whearty) rode him and he was almost a runaway, and he’s done that a few days.

“We’ve done a lot of work with him at home, and we’ve even schooled him over hurdles and fences to settle his head a bit.

“There was plenty of pace on there today, which was ideal. It’s grand that he hung on anyway.

“A mile is no problem to him as long as they go a gallop. He’s learning to settle better.

“I’d say the owners would like to go to Ascot for a handicap over there. He was 82 today, so we’ll see.”
