The Curragh's first Classic weekend of the season concludes on Sunday with the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas as the main dish.

The Fillies' Classic over a mile carries a top prize of just under €290,000 and a field of 14 possibles featured at the final confirmation stage.

Amongst them were three potential UK raiders following on from Karl Burke's win with Fallen Angel 12 months ago.

  • Donnacha looking for family bragging rights

The home team is dominated by Aidan O'Brien as the Ballydoyle supremo retains as many as four possible contenders, though his son Donnacha has one of the most intriguing entries.

Donnacha O'Brien confirmed on Monday his plan to supplement his unbeaten filly Atsila into the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas at the Tuesday entries stage.

The Phoenix Of Spain filly did not make her debut until April this year when winning a minor event at Bellewstown, but she stepped up markedly on that a month later to win the Group 3 Athasi Stakes at the Curragh.

Both her wins have come over the mile trip on good ground and her handler is excited to take this major step up the ladder.

"Her form looks strong. To be fair to Barry (Fowler, owner), he is game for anything. It was my fault that I didn't have her in the race in the first place but [was] more than happy to supplement and take a chance.

"I think she's entitled to be in the race."

His father has won the Irish 1000 Guineas a record 10 times, including a hat-trick from 2019-2021 with Hermosa, Peaceful and Empress Josephine.

The Ballydoyle handler has been hoovering up Classic trials in Britain and Ireland recently but was out of luck in the Guineas races at Newmarket at the start of the month.

Lake Victoria went off second-favourite on the Rowley Mile but was only sixth as Desert Flower won for Godolphin.

She was unbeaten in five races last season and joins stablemates Bedtime Story, Exactly and January as possible Curragh contenders.

Bedtime Story was sixth in the French Guineas a fortnight ago, two places behind Exactly. January signed off last season with runner-up finishes behind Desert Flower at Doncaster and Newmarket and the Kingman filly could reappear now.

Cercene for Joseph Murphy, Paddy Twomey's City Of Memphis, the Adrian Murray pair California Dreamer and Jaliyah, Dermot Weld's Swelter and Tamam Desert for Eoghan O'Neill complete the home-based contenders.

    Sangster has two challengers

Ollie Sangster could have a two-pronged attack with Flight and Simmering in the mix after they ran second and third behind Desert Flower at Newmarket in the Guineas there.

They both made good late progress from the rear, with Flight briefly hitting the front at the two-furlong marker, outrunning odds of 28/1 and 33/1 respectively.

Archie Watson's Duty First completes the list. The Showcasing filly won the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury (7f, good) last month and was sent off at 22/1 for the Newmarket Fillies' Classic as a consequence. She came home ninth of the 10 runners that day under Hollie Doyle, but was not helped by a stumble as they climbed out of the Rowley Mile dip with two-furlongs to run.
