Irish 1000 Guineas Tips Day two of Guineas weekend at the Curragh is the home of the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas, where some of the best fillies in the world take each other on in one of only five Irish Classics in the calendar year. Run over the mile, the Irish 1,000 Guineas has been won by Aidan O'Brien 10 times but Ballydoyle have gone through a three-year drought and are bidding to get back on track in 2025. A field of 12 have been declared for Sunday's race and our expert has picked out a pair to follow. The daughter of Frankel was unbeaten in a five-race juvenile campaign, with three Group 1 victories to her name.. She saw off the classy Red Letter at the Curragh on her debut over 7f last June, before making a successful British raid when comfortably seeing off her rivals in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket in August. Aidan O'Brien's filly improved another chunk when gaining a first Group 1 victory at the Curragh in the 7f Moyglare Stud Stakes. Granted, she had only four rivals to beat on the day, but nothing should be taken away from her performance. Further Group 1 victories followed at Newmarket over 6f and Del Mar at the Breeders' Cup when upped to a mile. She was sluggish and clearly needed the run when sixth in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket on her return three weeks ago, but should be spot on for this test now. Don't rule out Weld's runner Dermot Weld has won two of the last three runnings of the Irish 1,000 Guineas so it would be folly to rule out the unbeaten SWELTER, who could be the favourite's biggest challenger on Sunday. The daughter of Kingman's dam is a half-sister to Midday, so she's certainly bred to be smart and is expected to improve as she steps up in trip. Swelter had no shortage of speed when running out an impressive winner at the Curragh over a mile on her debut last July at odds of 12/1 and she was then put away for the rest of the year. On her return to action in March, she wasn't that strong in the betting (6/1) for the Group 3 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown over 7f but she hit the line hard to win comfortably and she's open to plenty of improvement. It is likely that she could be aimed at the Coronation Cup if she impresses this weekend.
