Irish Derby being considered for Old Persian Royal Ascot winner Old Persian could make a swift return to action in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh. Charlie Appleby's charge claimed his fifth victory from eight career starts in Friday's King Edward VII Stakes. The Group Two contest was a 'win and you're in' race for this weekend's Classic and Appleby revealed connections are giving serious thought to sending him to Ireland. Speaking on www.godolphin.com, the trainer said: “Old Persian has come out of his race very well and I am very pleased with him. “I have had initial discussions about the Irish Derby with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and he has agreed to review the situation before the supplementary entry deadline on Tuesday.”
