Irish Derby next stop for Dunboyne Express Dunboyne Express could be aimed at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby if the ground is suitable. Trainer Kevin Prendergast is waiting for the weather to break before making definite plans for his smart three-year-old. The Shamardal colt could turn out for the colts' Classic at the Curragh on June 26 if conditions ease sufficiently. Prendergast is playing a waiting game after Dunboyne Express found the going too quick when fifth to Roderic O'Connor in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. He had thought of stepping him up to a mile and a quarter for the Silver Stakes at the Curragh on Friday but scrapped that idea because of the continued dry weather. "The ground is very fast and he didn't handle it in the Guineas and there's no point risking jarring him up," the experienced trainer said. "It's frustrating because he's in great form and couldn't be better. "We're just waiting for the weather to break to get a bit of easy ground and then we'll be away again. "We're just playing it by ear. The Irish Derby is an option."
