Irish Jockeys Team to Australia announced

The Irish Jockeys' Team set to travel for the annual Jockeys' Challenge to Australia has been announced, with Paul Townend, Davy Condon, Mark Walsh and Steven Gray making up the four man team.

This is the 24th year that an Irish team has been invited to Australia to participate in the Ireland v Australia Jockey competition and the team will depart Dublin on Friday 13th August arriving in Adelaide on Sunday 15th.

The series, to be held in South Australia, will consist of 6 races: two at Gawler on Wednesday 18th, two at Morphettville on Thursday 19th and finally the series concludes with "Irish Day" at Morphettville on Saturday 21st. "Irish Day" has become the second biggest race meeting in South Australia held each year.

The South Australian Jockey Club have generously sponsored the air fares for the four participating jockeys and team manager Sean Lynch. The Jockeys will sport HRI branded jackets and branded gear bags at the races. Hugo Finlay of Hugo Thomas, Lisburn Road, Belfast is sponsoring a uniform of a blazer, shirt, tie and trousers for each of the traveling jockeys (for official functions).

Brian Kavanagh, Chief Executive of HRI said: “We would like to wish Davy, Paul, Mark and Stephen the best of luck down under and know that they will represent Ireland and Irish horse racing well when they are out there. This is the twenty-fourth year of the tour and we are again delighted to be associated with it.”
