Irish Leger next stop for Rite

Dermot Weld has confirmed his Gold Cup winner Rite Of Passage will return to the racecourse for the Irish Field St Leger on September 11.

Weld has won the Classic six times through Vintage Crop (1993 and 1994) and Vinnie Roe (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004) and is allowing the chestnut to rest up after his epic battle with Age Of Aquarius at Royal Ascot last month.

"Rite Of Passage is in great form and his next run will be in the Irish St Leger," said Weld.

The master of Rosewell House is less certain about the next target for Famous Name.

The five-year-old has not been seen since just getting home in the Amethyst Stakes at the start of May.

Famous Name's best form has been with cut in the ground and after taking several Group races last term, he finished second to Aqlaam in the Prix du Moulin.

Khalid Abdullah's son of Dansili is entered in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood as well as the Jockey Club Of Turkey Meld Stakes a few days earlier.

"He's in good form, it just depends on when there is an ease in ground conditions," Weld said.

"We'll just wait and see what happens with the ground over the next few days."
