Irish Rookie foiled in French 1,000 Guineas Ervedya gave trainer Jean-Claude Rouget back-to-back victories in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas) when pouncing late to land the Longchamp contest. Successful 12 months ago with Avenir Certain, Rouget struck again with a talented filly owned by the Aga Khan. Fontanelice made the running until well into the straight, where British raider Irish Rookie made her bid for glory just a week after finishing sixth in the Newmarket equivalent. Though Martyn Meade's filly stuck on well, she could not quite hold the favourite Ervedya. However, Fergus Sweeney's mount did deny Andre Fabre's previously unbeaten charge Mexican Gold the runner-up spot.
