Irish out of luck in Park Hill

Meeznah was a clear-cut winner of the DFS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster.

David Lanigan's stable star was bouncing back to form after a laboured effort at Newbury last time and was always travelling powerfully.

Frankie Dettori took the 5-2 winner past the trailblazing Sense Of Purpose two furlongs out but at that stage 9-4 favourite Set To Music was moving equally as well.

However Meeznah immediately took two lengths out of her rival and from that moment the runner-up never threatened to get back on terms and was three-and-a-half lengths adrift at the line.

Lanigan said: "Today has been the plan all year so it's great to get it right.

"The main reason I went back to Newbury was because I didn't want to leave it long between her races and she threw in a complete dud that day. It shocked me and we got her home and went over her with a fine tooth comb and nothing came to light.

"I gave her an easy week and she had two pieces of work coming in here. She's a difficult filly - the day she goes five lengths clear in a piece of work is probably the day she's gone over the top, but she did her work fine.

"I'll sit down with the owners and make a plan from here. She could go to France, she's in the Melbourne Cup - I made that entry seeing what happened today so there is a lot to decide."

Dettori added: "She was in tremendous shape today - she was a bit flat at Newbury, but she ran track-record time at Goodwood so I think that took a lot out of her. Today she was always travelling like the winner and I never saw anybody else."

Runner-up Set To Music is owned by the Queen and her trainer Michael Bell said: "I don't know if she didn't stay, but Jamie (Spencer) said she was travelling too well for about 10 furlongs of the race and was just doing too much.

"Take nothing away from the winner though, she is a very good filly.

"Set To Music oozes class and we could maybe drop her back in trip next time.

"I don't know what her next race will be. I need to make some telephone calls and come up with a plan. I don't like making decisions on the hoof straight after a race."
