Irish raiders hit the bar

Two Irish trained horses made the journey across the Irish Sea yesterday but unfortunately neither were successful.

Aidan Kennedy sent his two time bumper winner Character Actor to Bangor for the opening race on the card, a maiden hurdle. The champion jockey Tony McCoy took the ride.

However the 8/1 shot who led the field from the fourth flight was overtaken by the 6/4fav Dineur after the last and in the end finished just a length and three parts second behind the winning favourite.

McCoy also took the ride on the second Irish raider of the day, Liz Doyle’s Lady Luselle in the last race at Uttoxeter yesterday evening.

This Luso mare disputed the lead with the eventual winner Lady Carmela approaching the last and just as a battle looked set to ensue a blunder cost her dearly as she lost all chance of victory, finishing third past the post at the odds of 11/4.
