It's an easy game! Just back Reese Holohan Following Mountrath youngster Reese Holohan would have to qualify as one of the best punting approaches around at the moment, and the polished 7lb claimer drove home another winner in Dundalk’s BAR 1 Betting Handicap over the extended mile and a quarter. 28/1 were the rewarding odds about Wild Berries, who left behind unplaced runs in her five previous handicap outings to record a decisive breakthrough success. Holohan, mounting a strong late challenge to win the apprentice title, settled John Bowden’s Acclamation filly in mid-division before producing her to lead over a furlong out, from where she pulled three and half lengths clear of Jazz Forever. It was Holohan’s ninth winner in little over a month, including a couple at 12/1 and 16/1, and back in March, on Cheltenham Gold Cup day, he partnered two 33/1 winners on the evening card at Dundalk. “It’s a nice surprise, she’s been a frustrating filly,” said trainer Ross O’Sullivan after sending out his third winner in four days. “We thought last year that she’d be well capable of winning. When she came back this year, we were banging our heads against the wall. She just seemed to struggle. “We couldn’t work out what trip she wanted. The last day she ran, she travelled very sweet and then just seemed to level off, and wasn’t beaten that far. “We said we’d go up in trip again, at this stage it was try anything. “It’s nice to see her handle that surface. It probably wasn’t the strongest race, but she’s won now, so it’s great. “Reese gave her a great ride and the 7lb off her back probably helped. “I’m delighted for John Bowden, he kept the faith whereas I was starting to lose faith. We might have a bit of fun with her now up here for the winter.”
