Stable favourite Arch Enemy rounded off a very special day for trainer Paddy Magee as she won the concluding Navan Racing Festival 14 & 15 November Handicap.

The 7/2 favourite came with a late run under Sam Coen and pegged back Andy Oliver’s 6/1 chance Copper Craft well inside the final furlong to score by three-parts of a length, crediting her trainer with his first treble.

Arch Enemy was winning her seventh race for Magee (her eighth in all) and her first since a hurdles’ success at Fairyhouse in December 2024.

Magee said: “It is amazing! I have to thank all the staff - Emily is with me full-time, a young girl Amy from Kingscourt, and Corey McGivern is home from Australia and is in helping me out. He's a massive help. I have to thank my family, my parents and my wife.

“I also want to mention Fergal Harford. We work with each other, and he does most of the pre-training. I told him to take Arch Enemy, and he had her for a couple of months just to give her a change of scenery because she is getting a bit older and that.

“He sent her back to me and just told me, 'run her'. It made sense - there was no point letting her back into the system and maybe getting sick of it again. Fergal is a massive part of the team and I’m on the phone to him every day.

“Her work was okay but then she was working with that horse (Admiral Will Brown) and he was impressive.

“She is in at Killarney on Wednesday and she will go as she is going to get a slap for that. We’d like to get her up a few pounds to make sure we get into Galway.”
