The Mark Fahey trained Happy Jacky made the most of his limitless stamina to run out a game winner of the concluding Racing Again Friday May 16th Beginners Chase at Kilbeggan.

A six-time winner over hurdles, the veteran had also landed a big prize on the Flat in last years Ulster Cesarewitch at Down Royal.

Although unplaced in all four previous runs over fences, the 11-year-old showed plenty of determination to register a first win over the larger obstacles.

A mistake on landing after two out looked to have ended his chance but to his credit the Fahey trained gelding responded to Ricky Doyle to chase down leader Killaney King on the run to the last.

Leading at that final obstacle, the well backed 9/2 chance stayed on best to win by five-and-a-half lengths.

Mark Fahey said: “He has a very high mark over hurdles and I’m not sure where we will go now.

“He jumped well enough there that we could put him back into a handicap.”
