Daryl Jacob is recuperating at home following his release from hospital on Monday after he suffered multiple injuries in a nasty incident at Cheltenham on Friday.

Jacob underwent surgery on Saturday after suffering a broken knee, leg and elbow when he hit a hard surface after his mount Port Melon crashed into a rail on the way down to the start for the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle.

His agent Chris Broad said: "Daryl was released from Cheltenham hospital on Monday. I spoke to him when he got back home. He's had his operation and has had his leg pinned and plated. It's in an open brace, not a cast, which is good and he has had his elbow wired. It's really good he's home and is on the mend and the hospital were very pleased with how it is."

Broad added: "He doesn't go back until the end of the month to see the surgeon that operated on him, so I am not going to speculate how long he might be out for at this stage. Daryl has made good progress considering he only had his operation on Saturday morning."
