Jancis to 'have a punt' in Keeneland

The Willie McCreery-trained Jancis is set to continue her international travels as the Breeders' Cup now looms large.

The daughter of Tamayuz has improved markedly this season, taking the Betfred Dahlia Stakes (Group 2) on her seasonal reappearance at Newmarket. That was the quickest ground she had encountered, and it seemed to bring out the best in her, which would bode well for her Keeneland challenge.

She has been competing with the outstanding Blue Bolt for the duration of the year, getting closest in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2) at the Royal meeting. This length and three-quarter second was ultimately better than her seasonal reappearance, and again firm was in the going description.

Jancis then finished third in the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine in Canada last month, beaten by a neck. "Fantastic run, I thought. Hector Berrios rode her and he did everything we asked him to do," said McCreery

"It just probably cost us that we came out wide, because she doesn't travel up between horses. The winner (Gimme A Nother) got a lovely run through and if we had actually followed her through, we would have been half a length closer, and we were only beaten a neck and a nose.

"She travelled great and the whole lot.

"We have entered her in the Breeders' Cup, the fillies' and mares' (over nine and a half furlongs), to see if she gets in. If she gets in, we will have a punt. The owner (Chilean-based Arturo Cousino) is very keen to have a go."
