Jay Pee M (7/2) took the restricted beginners' chase at Cork for Terence O'Brien and John Shinnick

The Valirann gelding, twice placed over hurdles for Danny O'Sullivan last spring, was unlucky to fall when in front in a Boulta point-to-point on his stable debut last month.

Here, having tracked the leaders, he arrived travelling well to lead before two out. Steadied into the last, the winner was ridden out to score by two and a quarter lengths from Glady Max who just shaded market leader Mighty Oak Lad for second.

Shinnick, fresh from a double at Clonmel on Wednesday, reported: "He had his point-to-point won and jumped the final fence well but just knuckled on landing. I watched it back and don't know how he fell that day, so the aim today was to get him around.

"I was trying to keep him relaxed as he was trying to bowl his way to the front and was also eager to jump left. He was hanging off the bends but down the home straight we had the rail to guide which made my job easier."
