Jennifer Jane handed Italian mission Jennifer Jane will seek big-race glory in Italy after Charlie Johnston decided against boldly supplementing the runaway Pretty Polly Stakes winner for the Betfred Oaks. The Middleham handler was keen not to rule out giving the daughter of New Bay the opportunity to further step up in trip following her impressive six-length success from the front at Newmarket in Listed company. However, with reservations over stamina at the forefront of connections’ minds, Jennifer Jane will instead head to Milan for the Italian Oaks on the Sunday after Royal Ascot for San Siro’s valuable Group Two prize. Johnston said: “Plan A is she will go to the Italian Oaks and we thought long and hard about supplementing her for Epsom but £35,000 is a lot of money, particularly with us not certain she will stay. “We went to Newmarket not sure she would stay 10 furlongs and 12 would be a real step into the unknown. “It might not be as sexy an option, but it’s still a Group Two and worth €400,000 and will be a lot easier to win than the Oaks, so that’s where she will go next hopefully.”
