One-time Gold Cup hope Jessies Dream suffered a fatal injury on the gallops this morning.

Trainer Gordon Elliott revealed on Twitter that the gelding broke his hind leg while exercising at his Longwood yard.

Elliott posted the following tweet:- "I'm devastated to report Jessie's Dream broke a hind leg on the gallops this morning. Heartbreaking for David Johnson and all my staff."

Jessies Dream has been off the track since finishing second in the 2011 renewal of the RSA Chase at Cheltenham.

His finest moment came when winning the Grade 1 Drinmore Chase at Fairyhouse in October 2010.

The Presenting gelding was the first Irish-trained runner for multiple UK Champion owner David Johnson.

Elliott later added: "The poor horse has never really had a proper run at it. He's been plagued with injuries, but we were looking forward to running him in a point-to-point next Saturday and then hopefully he'd have been going to Aintree.

"Unfortunately he broke a hind leg up high behind this morning and I just feel so sad for everyone in the yard and especially David Johnson (owner), who was good enough to send the horse to us in the first place.

"He was a Grade One winner and just got touched off in the RSA. It's devastating for everyone connected with the horse."
