Jog For Jockeys proves a big success Over 600 people took part in the third annual Jog For Jockeys charity fundraiser at the Curragh yesterday, with all monies raised to be donated to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. Barry Geraghty, who finished 9th overall, was the first jockey home in the 10km race. His weighroom colleague, Brian Hayes finished 4th in the 5km race and was the first jockey home over that distance. Also among the 600 runners were jockeys Bryan Cooper, Fran Berry, Gary Carroll, Niall ‘Slippers’ Madden, Patrick Mullins, Katie Walsh, David Casey, Connor King, Danny Mullins and Andrew McNamara as well as trainers Dick Brabazon, Paul Deegan and Ross O’Sullivan. One of the event organisers Joe Osborne ran both 10km and 5km races as did former jockey Pat Malone, who is now a Turf Club official. Malone finished second in the 10km race behind Gary O'Hanlon. Incidentally O'Hanlon also finished second in the 5km won by Jack O'Leary. Michelle Cox won the Womens 5km race, while Karen O'Hanlon took the 10km event. Event Organiser, Audrey O'Dwyer, said: “We were delighted with the turn-out yesterday, it was a tremendous success and there was a great community spirit and atmosphere at the track. "Hopefully we raised a lot of money for the Injured Jockeys Fund. I would like to thank everyone who got involved and took part. A special mention must go to all the volunteers who made the event possible - it was a real team effort.” Dr Adrian McGoldrick, Turf Club Senior Medical Officer, commented: “There was a wonderful turn out and atmosphere at the Curragh. It’s a great cause and I was delighted to take part. "A big thank you to Audrey O’Dwyer and Joe Osborne and all the volunteers who made it all happen. I’m looking forward to next year already.”
