Joseph O'Brien still sweet on US Army Ranger Joseph O'Brien would have no hesitation in riding US Army Ranger in the Investec Derby. The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt maintained his unbeaten record in the Chester Vase, but did not impress everyone with his performance in holding off stablemate Port Douglas. There were even questions asked by the stewards about the ride of Seamie Heffernan on the runner-up but no action was taken. O'Brien, who won the Derby on Camelot and Australia in 2012 and 2014 respectively, told At The Races: "I wouldn't mind riding him. I think he's very good and he's never disappointed us. "He shouldn't be able to do what he's doing (at this stage of his career). He could be really good. "The way he looks I think he could be even better at four. He's got a huge engine." While there are question marks over the Ballydoyle colts there is no disputing who is the number one filly, 1000 Guineas winner Minding. "Minding was brilliant at two and it looks like she's improved from two to three. She could be a brilliant filly," said O'Brien, who embarks upon a three-week training course on Monday, after which he should be granted his own training licence.
