Just A Way hugely impressive at Meydan Japanese star Just A Way ran out a brilliant winner of the Dubai Duty Free at Meydan in a course record time. The five-year-old had shown impressive domestic form, including a defeat of Gentildonna, and translated that onto the international stage with dominant display in the Group One contest. Tokei Halo, also from Japan, cut out much of the early running but he was only in front under sufferance and was soon picked up by Vercingetorix in the straight. Whereas Christophe Soumillon was hard at work in the saddle, Yuichi Fukunaga was sitting motionless just in behind on his outside and when he pushed the button the son of Heart's Cry was soon in full cry and sprinted clear to win as he liked by about 10 lengths. The winning jockey said: "That was amazing. The start didn't go as I hoped it would and I had to change my plan but it all worked out for me." The big disappointment was John Gosden's The Fugue, the Irish Champion Stakes winner struggling from some way out and eased home at the rear of the field by William Buick. Dank, representing Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore, made rapid late headway from a difficult position and eventually pinched third. Moore said: "I was stuck in traffic and she stayed on late. She's run a great race first time out."
