KNIFE POINTED AT NAAS

Leading Arkle Chase hope Knife Edge, denied a run at Fairyhouse on Sunday, will warm up for the Cheltenham Festival at Naas later this month.

The Michael O`Brien-trained gelding was ruled out of the Tied Cottage Novice Chase after he coughed on Saturday.

But O`Brien said today: 'He`s fine this morning. He just has a little bit of an infection in his lungs. It isn`t much but you can`t run them like that.

'Hopefully it will clear up in two or three days` time.

'It didn`t hold him up and he`s in great form. He`ll probably run at Naas in two weeks` time. The timing should be OK for Cheltenham.'

Knife Edge is being aimed at the Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy, for which he is a 6-1 chance with the Tote.

'My horse is a very good jumper but the Arkle is always a difficult race to win,' O`Brien added. 'He is a good second favourite but Best Mate (5-4 with the Tote) is going to be hard to beat.'
