Kalir takes out finale in the Curragh The Dermot Weld-trained Kalir (6/1) gave jockey Chris Hayes a quick-fire double on the last two races at the Curragh Racecourse. The three-year-old son of Night Of Thunder was a recent winner in Killarney and he improved today to win off a mark of 85. Hayes was allowed to bring his mount to the front and they kicked at the two-furlong mark and kept the fast-finishing Final Voyage at bay to gain victory by half a length. Speaking after the race, rider Chris Hayes said: "We had that race earmarked for him. I thought here would suit him. It wasn't the plan to make it but I got gifted it in front and he picked up well. I think he'll be better when he goes up and he's turning a few bends. He could be a stakes horse." (Quotes from John O'Riordan)
