Katla plans

Katla could next Friday be back at the scene of her finest hour after she made a sudden return to form at the Curragh on Saturday.

John Grogan, Katla's trainer, has the Group Three Summer Stakes at York in mind for the four-year-old filly after she defied a lean spell to take third place in the Sapphire Stakes.

Connections of Katla have halcyon memories of York after she won the Rockingham Stakes on the Knavesmire two years ago.

Grogan said: "She's very well in herself and it was a real return to form at the Curragh.

"They went some pace early on, and that always plays to her hands.

"We've got lots to think about, but there's a Group Three race for fillies at York which we might go for.

"There's also a Listed race over six furlongs at Fairyhouse on Sunday week (Belgrave Stakes)."

A big display at either York or Fairyhouse will see Grogan raise the bar even higher.

"We'd like to win a race at Listed or Group Three level and then we can start thinking big - something like Haydock (the Sprint Cup)," said the County Tipperary handler, who also owns and bred Katla.

"I'd be thinking as a breeder, so we've got to play the long game by trying to get a win out of her as a two-, three-, and four-year-old."
