Kauto Star Now Even Money

Kauto Star sets out on his quest for back-to-back Betfair Chase victories on Saturday afternoon at Haydock Park and Paul Nicholls' reigning Order of Merit champion has come in for some solid support in the market since the publication of the 5-day declarations on Monday.

A 5-4 shot on Betfair at that stage, the seven year-old is now trading at even money on the sponsor's exchange and has moved into odds-on territory with the majority of high-street layers.

Kauto Star certainly doesn't have a monopoly on market support though, as his chief rival, Alan King's My Way de Solzen, has also proven popular with antepost punters. His odds have contracted from 9-2 on Monday afternoon into 3-1 at present.

The prospect of a Tony McCoy-less Exotic Dancer ? the champion jockey looks more likely to ride Wichita Lineman in Ascot's Coral Hurdle ? has seen the layers arrive in force for the Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up. Timeform may well rate Jonjo O'Neill's horse 14lbs superior to My Way de Solzen on their achievements to date but the Betfair market suggests that he will struggle to confirm those ratings on Saturday. He now trades at 9-1.

Indeed, it's Turpin Green, who finished third behind Kauto Star and Exotic Dancer at Cheltenham in March who has emerged as the ?steamer' in the market. Nicky Richards' 8 year-old may well be making his seasonal debut on Saturday but punters have supported him from a top-price of 94-1 on Betfair into his current price of just 16-1.

Betfair's Eoin Ryan commented: ?'With good to soft ground now forecast for Haydock on Saturday, it looks like everything is falling into place for Kauto Star. Ruby Walsh or no Ruby Walsh ? last year's Betfair Million winner is a solid favourite for glory again in the first leg of this year's bonus series.''
