Twenty-year-old jockey Paul Kavanagh registered a second career success and a first in Ireland, when steering the Enda Bolger-trained, J.P. McManus-owned Gimme A Buzz (3/1f) to win Clonmel’s Show Sunday July 6th Handicap Hurdle.

Initially held up behind the leaders, the five-year-old improved to lead from halfway and eventually held on well to score by a neck from Ballycashin

Gimme A Buzz had previously won under Mark Walsh at Tipperary last month and today Bolger reported “our intention was to jump out smarter but missed that so, which was a bit of a cock-up. Paul is a good hard-worker though, he is with us a year so deserves to get a winner.

“It was a hotter race than he won in the Junction (Tipperary) but he is a good jumper and is a well-bred horse. Hopefully he has a nice future over fences.”

Tuam-native Kavanagh’s previous success came in a Cartmel handicap hurdle for trainer David Loughnane, in August 2023.
