Keane gets one back as Chester Nimitz belatedly lands maiden Colin Keane showed that he was still very much in contention for the jockeys championship when making virtually all on the Noel Meade trained Chester Nimitz to win the Buy Now & Save With The Real Deal Bundle Maiden at Navan. Trailing Dylan Browne McMonagle by eight at the start of the day, the reigning champion narrowed that gap slightly with a strong ride to score on the 12/1 chance. Having his ninth career start, the Profitable gelding had looked relatively exposed coming into the race. However, dropping back to sprinting and adopting front-running tactics paid dividends. Strongly pressed by market leader Ballintogher inside the final 100 yards, the eventual winner kept on in determined fashion to prevail by a head. Noel Meade said: "I have to thank Ben Coen to be honest because he rode him in the north and he clipped heels, and he didn't knock him around after that. He came in and he said to me he was very quick out of the gates and has loads of boot, so he said maybe it would be better to bring him back to six furlongs and let him roll. "He looked great today and he is due to go to the sales at the end of the month and I'd say he probably will go to the sales. He'll be a nice horse for some of the foreign countries - he goes on top of the ground and he's a lovely big horse." Additional reporting by Michael Graham.
