In For The Night added to an initial Gowran win last autumn when digging deep to land the Mulvaney Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle at Naas.

The Des McDonogh-trained gelding and 4/1 favourite King In Love who didn’t help his chance with a mistake at the last, fought out a tremendous finish with Aidan Kelly’s mount just proving the stronger close home.

The 11/1 chance prevailed by half-a-length, with The Nagger Reidy seven lengths back in third and Paul Collins completed the places in fourth.

McDonogh said, “He gave it a great ride, it was absolute perfection. He did everything he was told.”

When asked if the better ground was a help he added, “Huge, he had to pull up the last day in Fairyhouse as he couldn’t even jump out of it.

“He’s a grand horse, we’ll just plough along and see what the handicapper does.

“He ran last year in Galway and was ninth jumping the last hurdle and was just beat in second. I think he’d love the hill and plenty of pace.”
