Kempton to inspect Christmas Eve Kempton clerk of the course Barney Clifford is set to announce an inspection for Christmas Eve ahead of the top-class St Stephen's Day fixture. Clifford had issued an upbeat bulletin on Wednesday evening but after another night of sub-zero temperatures and severe wind chill, the covers that are layed on the track have now frozen. "We got to minus 1.5C overnight and the slushy snow has now frozen on the covers," said Clifford. "When you peel them (the covers) back, the grass is raceable but the covers are now stuck to the track. "It's about 2C colder than it was last night. "Going forward, there are forecasts of minus 3C, minus 4C and minus 5C. "I'm afraid it's one step backwards rather than two forwards. "It's likely we'll call an inspection this afternoon for tomorrow."
