The Gavin Cromwell-trained Tyre Kicker just clung on at the line after a dramatic finish to the rated novice chase at Leopardstown. Brideswell Lad looked 'home and hosed' as he had a clear lead going to the last but a difference of opinion at the final fence saw him unship JJ Slevin.

Tyre Kicker inherited the lead but started to tie up close home as Irish Blaze conjured up a renewed effort, flashing home.

The judge was called into action and there was only a short-head to spare at the line as Tyre Kicker held on for Keith Donoghue.

It was a hat-trick for the winner, sent off 7/4 favourite, and Cromwell said afterwards:-

“When your luck is in it's in. We were blessed. I thought the loose horse was going to help him but it didn't really look like he did.

“We were concerned about the trip, two-one, and I don't know if it was ideal. He's a good jumper and we'll probably step up in trip again.

“It was great to win another race with him.”

There were only three finishers from the six runners with Bal De Rio and Commandingpresence also failing to complete.
