King's Road back on track

King's Road put a number of disappointing runs behind him including over hurdles at Cork last Friday when causing a 12/1 surprise in the mile and three furlongs Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap.

Ben Curtis sent the gelding to the front early in the straight, and the six-year-old kept on well to deny Sun Disc (13/2) by two lengths with 5/1 joint favourite Solar Sail another head away in third.

Eamon O'Donabhain, representing winning trainer John Murphy, said: “We were quietly confident and knew he'd stay the mile and three furlongs. Ben gave him a great ride and he'll go for something similar.”
