King George Poser For Alkaased Connections

Connections of Alkaased are to consider whether to miss the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes in favour of an autumn campaign.

Luca Cumani, who trains yesterday´s Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner for owner Michael Charlton, believes it is asking a lot to keep a horse at his best throughout the year.

'It is very difficult as the King George comes at a very awkward time for a horse that´s been running in the spring, if you want to run him again in the autumn,' he told At The Races.

'It´s a question of balancing. If you run in the King George, the chances are that you may not get to the autumn in top form because you have not got enough time to give the horse a break and bring him back.

'It is something the owners and myself will have to consider. The alternative to not running in the King George would be to give him a very good mid-season break and have him back to run in races like the Arc, the Breeders´ Cup and the Japan Cup.

'It´s a tricky one, but I´d be happy to go either way and I think on this issue I´ll leave it to the owners. After all, they own the horse and they get the enjoyment of seeing him run. If they want to go to the King George I´d be very happy to go there.

'Equally, if they want to aim for an autumn campaign with all those glittering prizes, I´d be very happy to go down that path.
