King Of Kingsfield (5/4 fav) made it three wins from five starts over fences when taking the BetVictor Novice Chase at Punchestown.

Jack Kennedy slotted him in behind the leaders and the Vadamos gelding moved up to challenge Birdie Or Bust at the second-last.

The winner knuckled on landing there and handed the initiative to Birdie Or Bust but King Of Kingsfield got by far the better jump of the pair at the final fence and went away to score by two and a half lengths.

Trainer Gordon Elliott said of the Gigginstown House Stud-owned winner: “Jack said he’s relaxing a lot more, he was very keen as a young horse, and he said ‘I think he might have won snug if he hadn’t nodded at the back of the second-last’.

“I think it was a good enough performance. As soon as the ground goes, you won’t see him until the spring.

“He’s three races won now over fences so we can’t complain.

“He had to do the donkey work (for Brighterdaysahead) last season, and it wasn’t really fair on him.”
