LEGAL RIGHT ON GOLD TRAIL

Legal Right was today reported back in serious work and on course for a crack at next month`s Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup.

But Jonjo O`Neill has still to find a jockey for the eight-year-old, who suffers intermittent lameness and has been sidelined since a setback forced him to miss the Pertemps King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

The trainer said: 'He is back in work and I am happy with him at the moment, but every time you look at him you worry!

'I will also put him in the two-and-a-half-mile handicap and the three-miler at Cheltenham but the Gold Cup is the race we want to go for.

'He won`t have an outing before the Festival, I want to minimise the risk of anything going wrong but I will probably give him a couple of racecourse gallops to put him spot on.

'We need to find a jockey for him now.'

Legal Right was ridden by Norman Williamson when an impressive 15-length winner under 12st in the Tote Silver Cup at Ascot in December on his only outing to date this term.

He is quoted at 16-1 by Ladbrokes for the Gold Cup, a race he was forced to miss last year by another setback.
