Ladbrokes buy Cashman shops

Ladbrokes have further strengthened their presence in Ireland by acquired five of the existing eleven Cashman betting shops in Cork.

Three of the premises purchased are in Cork City, at Maylor Street, Shandon Street and Dillon’s Cross. The other two are located in Kanturk and Mitchelstown.

Ladbrokes, the largest bookmaker in Ireland with 207 outlets in the Republic and a further 78 in the North, plan to retain 17 of the existing Cashmans staff.

Ladbrokes spokesperson, Hayley O’Connor commented “Our priority, first and foremost, will be the existing staff and clients. Whilst the betting industry is finding current market conditions difficult we are hopeful that a reform of current legislation will create the right conditions for the industry to return to growth. These shops are good locations and we aim to develop the businesses in the long term."
