Lailani keeps on winning

Lailani continues to lay serious claim to being the most improved filly in training after extending her unbeaten sequence to six in the Vodafone Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood today.

And Frankie Dettori, completing a double of Group One races at the five-day meeting having landed Wednesday`s Sussex Stakes on Noverre, was quick to hail his 'courageous and generous' partner after she battled hard to land the odds from surprise package Snowflake.

Indeed, for much of the mile-and-a-quarter contest, it looked as if Snowflake - an unconsidered 25-1 shot - would lead from start to finish under an enterprising ride from Jamie Spencer.

But Lailani, the 5-4 favourite, battled hard for her determined rider to take the lead just inside the final furlong and ran on strongly to score by a length and a half.

Time Away, who was slightly hampered as the first two came together in the final furlong and was also hit on the nose by Dettori`s whip, was a further half-length back in third place.

Lailani started her winning sequence in a modest maiden event at Windsor but this was her second success at the highest level, having taken the Irish Oaks at the Curragh on her previous outing.

'She hasn`t stopped improving,' explained trainer Ed Dunlop. 'As everybody knows, when fillies start improving they tend to keep improving.

'I was concerned that coming back to a mile and a quarter could make things difficult for her but her heart is almost bigger than her body.

'She will have a nice long break now and then she should reappear in the Prix Vermeille.'
