Lamb Or Cod runner-up here last month to Argocat, went one better when just getting off the mark after an exciting finish to the thurles.ie Maiden Hurdle.

Alan Crowe was at work on the 11/10 favourite from two out where Jack The Pirate looked a big threat.

However the Old Vic gelding dug deep on the run-in, and just had enough to hold off the late challenges of the gambled on Inis Meain (25/1 to 9/1) and Bold Banks (7/1).

Winning trainer Eugene O’Sullivan said, “He’s a lovely horse and the Land Rover Bumper was the aim last season when he was ridden by part-owner Paul McMahon. However a few things happened and it didn’t go quite according to plan.

“He’s turned inside out since he went hurdling, and he’s a chaser in the making. We are not going to kill him over hurdles this season, and he’ll come back in September for a beginners chase at Listowel.”
