Lambourn is the 7/4 favourite for the St Leger after winning the Irish Derby at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Aidan O'Brien charge was the odds-on favourite for the Irish Derby but faced a serious challenge from stablemate Serious Contender

Now, the question will be what next for Lambourn after he became the 21st horse to complete the Epsom and Irish Derby double?

  • 'The question mark is...'

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps said: “Some will argue that Lambourn’s Irish Derby win wasn’t totally convincing, but he’s becoming a very tough horse to pass and deserves to be as short as he is at 7/4 for the St Leger.

“The question mark really is whether he’ll go down the Doncaster route, particularly with stallion prospects in mind. A quickish turnaround for the King George could be an option where he’s 8/1 from 12/1, while he’s 14/1 to triumph in the Arc at Longchamp.

“Over in France, Calandagan made amends for his quirky Epsom display with a good win in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and is a warm fancy for the King George at 3/1 (from 7/1).”

    The timeline

The King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes is the next race in the calendar where Lambourn could reappear, taking place at Ascot on July 26th.

If he decides to skip the race at Ascot, the St Leger takes place at Doncaster on September 13th while the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp is on October 5th.
