Moracana has proved a great money-spinner for connections and will bid for a fifth career win in the FBD Hotels & Resorts Orby Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon.

The Sheila Lavery-trained mare has won three times at Leopardstown including the very valuable Irish Stallion Farms EBF Petingo Handicap on Irish Champions Weekend last September and recorded a career best on her reappearance at Cork.

The five-year-old daughter of Elzaam had three of today’s rivals behind when finishing strongly to beat Irish Lullaby in the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Noblesse Stakes last month and the Summerhill trainer is looking forward to getting her out again.

“She’s in great form and I haven’t done a massive amount with her since Cork as she seems to be a naturally fit filly. I don’t think the ground will be a problem and I’m looking forward to running her,” said Lavery.

“I think the Elzaam’s get better with age and she’s just a gorgeous straight forward filly.

“Cork was her first run of the year and normally all our horses need their first run but she just puts the head down.

“We haven’t had to do much with her since and hopefully she’ll like the Curragh. She should like the big galloping track.”

Moracana faces five rivals in the mile and a half event including Cesarewitch winner Run For Oscar and Mashhoor who won a Cork handicap off a mark of 96 last month.
