Leac An Scail Lady found plenty for Rachael Blackmore to see off 100/1 shot Fly Little Bird in the opening mares' maiden hurdle over an extended two miles six furlongs in Killarney.

Leac An Scail Lady, the 7/4 favourite, made most but was less than fluent at their last flight (normal two out but final flight bypassed) which enabled a staying-on Fly Little Bird to almost get on terms.

The second reserve Fly Little Bird held every chance on the long run-in but Leac An Scail Lady rallied in the closing stages to pick up the victory by half a length for Henry de Bromhead. Optional Mix who was in contention turning for home, dropped 15 lengths away to third at 9/4.

Blackmore said: “She ran well at Wexford the last day (when runner-up) and is a real staying mare. She jumped well and was brave at a few.

“It’s hot out there and it’s proper good ground.”
