Cafe Con Leche rallied home to land Limerick's Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle today, defying a market drift to score for trainer Charles Byrnes and jockey Jack Gilligan.

A 6/1 chance this morning before returning 10/1, Cafe Con Leche was bumped along behind the leaders rounding the final turn but flew home, improving to lead 100 yards out and won hard-held by four lengths.

Byrnes, who trains the winner for his son owner Cathal Byrnes, said “they went fairly hard and they stopped in front.

“He had form on heavy ground so handled it better than most of them. He could go back on the flat but I don't think he liked jumping fences the few times he jumped them.”
